6th Grade Home and Careers6th grade Home and Careers is taught by Mrs.Tusa and Mrs. Spicer. This will be your first year of Home & Careers at the middle school. The course runs for 10 weeks. As a class you will be focusing on two different units. The first is Child Development. We will be learning about the development of infant, toddlers and preschoolers. Once you have completed the Child Development unit you will begin learning a few hand sewing skills. When you have learned the skills you will then construct a hand sewn whale. It is a great starter project and will be something that you can leave with and be proud you created.
Supplies Need: 1/4 yard of Fleece It can be purchased at Joann Fabrics or Walmart. The cost should be no more then $5.00. If for any reason you will not be able to purchase fabric just let your teacher know. |

7th Grade Home and Careers
As a 7th grade student you will have Home and Careers for 20 weeks. During the 20 weeks we will be focusing on career development, machine sewing, money management, foods and nutrition.
To explore careers we will be using the site careerzone.ny.gov. This site allows you to explore many different avenues of careers. You will complete two major project related to what you may what to do in the future.
Students will then be constructing an apron using the sewing machines. Below is what students will need in order to make the apron. The "apron project" is a wonderful introduction into using a sewing machine.
Supplies Needed: 1 yard of cotton fabric. It can be purchased at Joann Fabrics or Walmart. The cost should be no more then $7.00. If for any reason you will not be able to purchase fabric let me know.
Once the apron is complete we will take some time to learn about managing money and what it takes to be successful in this valuable life skill.
Students will then be learning basic cooking skills along with how to eat a healthy balanced diet. We also spend time learning about the American food industry and meal planning. Students will explore what it means to have a sustainable table.
